labotanica seeks an intern (unpaid), based in Houston, Texas to shape its newly created Resource Room. This position would reach out to individuals, art institutions and publishers to donate items; promote the program online and by posting flyers; and conduct brief orientation sessions. Some of the skills that are essential to the position are strong communication and writing skills, ability to do independent research, and a genuine interest in contemporary, community, and experimental art and diverse cultures. The right person can dedicate 4 days a month, has a DIY attitude and can relate to the mission of labotanica (check out the website, link below). The position is flexible since the organization is artist-run and just getting launched. This is a great opportunity to learn more on arts administration & non-hierarchal models of cultural production. Individuals of diverse backgrounds and disciplines are encouraged to apply. Send a resume & brief cover letter stating why and how you are interested in shaping the Resource Room to: la@labotanica.org

About the Resource Room:

The Resource Room will provide artists, educators, curators, students, and community members with on-site access to a collection of books, publications, and videos on art, art history, culture, criticism, interviews, artist biographies, and professional development opportunities. A small portion of the Resource Room will be devoted to actual art including artist books, video art, experimental film, and 3rd cinema films. Individuals can schedule an appointment and read, watch videos, listen to audio material, and make copies of information on site. Programs will be developed out of the Resource Room including workshops, proposals, symposia, residencies, and educational programs.
